Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon

Warren McKeon Dickson Lawyers were proud to be the Platinum Sponsor of the Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon, held to commemorate International Women’s Day. The function was held at Dolton House, Sylvania in March 2012.

Our only female Principal, Rebecca Flynn, gave an entertaining speech about what it means to be a "Woman in Business". In addressing the crowd of multi talented and enthusiastic Women In Business, Rebecca was able to draw on a wealth of experience from her past as an International Karate Champion and the NSW Young Property Lawyer of the Year and now as the head of our Property Group that provides service from Sydney to the Victorian border.

Rebecca also introduced special guest speaker Kerri Pottharst, who is one of Australia's most popular female sporting personalities, famous for winning gold for Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in beach volleyball.

At the event, Kerri challenged the crowd to participate in the "glass walk" – our own Amanda Doring, Senior Associate in the Family Law division, took to the challenge and successfully completed the walk with not one cut!

This was a wonderful event to be part of and we look forward to participating in 2013!

Relay for Life

WMD Lawyers are active participants in this event, having raised over $14 200 in our past two years of involvement. We are participating again in 2012, and have already raised in excess of $2000 from friends, family and a bake sale at the Miranda office. We will be walking the track with members of staff and family for the entire 24 hours in 2012.

Relay for life is a global fundraising event for the local cancer councils all over the world, spanning more than 600 communities in 21 countries. It is a great community event and is the major annual fundraising event for the NSW Cancer Council, which is involved in cancer research.

Cronulla Lions Club Annual Charity Golf Day

WMD Lawyers is proud to co-sponsor the annual Cronulla Lions Club Charity Golf Day. All proceeds of this event go to supporting the Sutherland District Hospital and other Cronulla Lions projects.

The Cronulla Lions Club is a non-profit organisation established in 1965 which is dedicated to providing fundraising for charitable causes in the wider community. This local club is one of many organised under the Australian Lions Foundation, which provides disaster relief, world-class leukemia research facilties, funds for cancer research, funds for Ophthalmic research and bionic hearing devices, and mobility aids for handicapped people, in partnership with the Spastic Centre. The Australian Lions Foundation is orchestrated by a national council of governors from the 20 local Lions Club districts.

Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking

WMD Lawyers is proud to have an associate partnership with The Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking as of the 1st of December 2011.

The Royal Motor Yacht Club Port Hacking was founded in 1934 and provides a myriad of activities for its members including power cruising, yachting, sailing, fishing and golf. It is the Port Hacking's only licensed waterfront location, with over 2000 active members and first-class facilities, including security parking and a brand new $3 million dollar floating marina.

WMD Lawyers was a founding member of the Miranda Chamber of Commerce and has been actively involved in the group since it's inception. Greg Dickson, our CEO, was the Foundation Secretary for four years, and is still actively involved as a committee member. Since the groups foundation in 2007, it has grown to become the largest group of its kind in the Sutherland Shire, discussing and promoting issues that are of concern to local businesses in Miranda and its surrounding suburbs.

Success Women's Network

WMD Lawyers are actively involved in the Success Women's Network, and have been a platinum sponsor of the Celebrating Women in Business Luncheon for the last two years. All proceeds of this event go to Jacaranda Cottage, a charity organisation which acts as a refuge for young women aged 16-20 who are homeless or at risk. Additionally, as part of their involvement members of staff actively participate in the groups monthly meetings.

Miranda District Neighbour Aid

WMD Lawyers has had a long-standing community involvement with the Miranda District Neighbour Aid and has supported the group by providing legal and administrative services on a pro bono basis. Additionally, our CEO, Greg Dickson, has held the position of Secretary in the group for the past three years, and the positions of President and Secretary for the past year and a half.

Miranda District Neighbour Aid assists those in the community who are elderly, frail or disabled to stay in their homes, foregoing aged or assisted care facilities, by providing a variety of services free of charge, including home visits and financial assistance.

Miranda RSL

WMD Lawyers has been a strong supporter of Miranda RSL through a long-standing community partnership. Our CEO, Greg Dickson, has been on the governing board for two years. Additionally, the firm has generously donated time to assist in administration matters.

Miranda RSL is a Returned and Services Leagues Club that has been an active part of the local community for many years, touting both excellent general facilities and several function rooms available to hire for all occasions.

Turia Pitt Fundraising Drive

WMD Lawyers is committed to contributing back to the community, which is why we have contributed an $1100 Estate Planning Gift Certificate to the fundraising efforts for Turia Pitt. Turia was participating in Racing the Planet's Kimberley Ultra-marathon when she and her competitors became trapped in a gorge and engulfed by an out of control bushfire. As a result, Turia suffered horrific burns to 60% of her body, and is in the process of a very long, painful and expensive rehabilitation.
